中国和越南谴责欧盟对从中越两国进口的皮鞋征收额外反倾销税的决定。
中国商务部发言人崇泉星期五说，这个决定不公平，而且将对欧盟制造业贸易构
成伤害。
越南外交部否认越南皮鞋制造商以不公平的低价向欧洲运输产品。
欧盟星期四说，将从今年4月7日开始对中国和越南进口的皮鞋施加额外关税。欧
盟表示，为了制止中越两国廉价皮鞋充斥欧洲市场，采取制裁措施是必要的。
China, Vietnam Denounce EU Shoe Duties
China and Vietnam have denounced a European Union decision to place ad
ditional "anti-dumping" tariffs on leather shoes from their countries.
Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesman Chong Quan said today (Friday) tha
t the decision was unfair, and will cause damage to the EU's manufactu
ring trade.
In Vietnam, the Foreign Ministry denied that Vietnamese shoemakers are
shipping their products to Europe at unfairly low prices.
Thursday, the European Commission said it would introduce additional t
ariffs on leather shoes from China and Vietnam, beginning April sevent
h. It said the move was necessary to stop the two nations from floodin
g the European market with inexpensive leather shoes.

New Report Says China Profits from Illegal Logging
Environmentalists say American, European and Japanese consumers are bu
ying furniture made in China from wood imported from countries where i
llegal logging is rampant.
A new report compiled by a coalition of international environmental gr
oups says imports of forest products from China to the United States a
nd European Union have increased almost 900 percent since 1998.
At the same time, the study said, China has become the world's leading
importer of wood from developing countries such as Indonesia and Papu
a New Guinea, where illegal logging is common.
The environmental groups called on China to improve productivity withi
n its own forestry sector and reduce its reliance on imports. They al
so urged governments to crack down on corruption that drives the illeg
al business.
