Shanghai Builds Underground Safety Bunker for 200,000 People
A state-controlled newspaper in China says the country's most populous
city, Shanghai, has built a vast, underground bunker to protect people
in the event of a nuclear attack or other calamity.
The "Shanghai Morning Post" reports the facility is 90-thousand square
meters and connects to shopping centers, office buildings and apartment
blocks through a series of tunnels. The newspaper says the bunker links
to the city's subway system, as well.
The paper says the facility can support 200-thousand people for up to
15 days. The Shanghai municipality's population is approaching 20 million.
The exact location of the bunker was not mentioned.

上海新闻晨报报导,该设施总面积达9万平方米,通过一系列通道与商场、办公楼
以及公寓楼相通。报导还说,掩体还与城市的地铁系统相连。
上海新闻晨报说,这个设施可以容纳20万人在里面生存多达15天。上海目前的人
口接近2千万。
