Iraqi police say at least 46 people have been killed and 138
others wounded in suicide blasts at a Shi'ite mosque in Baghdad.
Security officials say the explosions occurred as worshippers
were leaving the Baratha mosque in northern Baghdad after Friday
prayers. There was confusion about the cause of the blasts,
as well as the number of explosions. First reports said the
explosions were caused by three mortars fired by insurgents,
but authorities now say they are sure they were caused by suicide
bombers.
Authorities urged Iraqis in the capital to donate blood for those
wounded and to avoid gathering in large crowds near mosques and
markets due to the ongoing sectarian violence.

EU Suspends Aid to Palestinians
The European Union has cut off aid payments to the Hamas-led
Palestinian government because of the Islamic group's refusal
to renounce violence and recognize Israel. A spokeswoman for
the European Commission Friday said direct aid has been
suspended for the time being. Officials say the aid stoppage
does not affect humanitarian aid sent to relief agencies.
Palestinian officials denounced the decision, saying the move
punishes the Palestinian people. They also stress that Hamas
politicians were elected democratically by Palestinian voters.
EU foreign ministers are expected to further discuss the payment
stoppage at their meeting in Brussels Monday.
The 25-nation European bloc is the biggest donor of aid to the
Palestinians. The United States has already suspended aid to
the Hamas-led government, and Israel has halted the monthly
transfer of millions of dollars in tax revenues that it
collects for the Palestinians. The European Union, the United
States and Israel consider Hamas a terrorist organization.
