伊仍未能就总理提名达成一致
伊拉克什叶派政界人士再次没能就总理提名问题达成一致，这个问题一直阻碍着
新政府的组建工作。什叶派团结联盟各党派领导人今天(星期二)在巴格达开会，
讨论贾法里的去留问题。会议中止后，有关官员说，他们星期三将再次会晤，争
取解决这个问题。
这次会谈的一天前，逊尼派阿拉伯人和库尔德人领袖再次拒绝接受现任总理贾法
里被提名在下届政府中继任总理。
什叶派联盟的一个政党的官员今天告诉记者说，如果团结联盟不能确保贾法里的

Iraq's Shi'ite Politicians Fail Again to End Political Standoff
Shi'ite politicians in Iraq have failed once again to agree on their
candidate for prime minister, which is blocking the formation of a
new government. Leaders of parties in the Shi'ite United Iraqi Alliance
met today (Tuesday) in Baghdad to discuss the fate of Prime Minister
Ibrahim al-Jaafari. After the meeting broke off, officials said they
would try again Wednesday to resolve the issue.
Today's talks came one day after Sunni Arab and Kurdish leaders again
rejected the nomination of Mr. Jaafari to keep his post in the country's
next government.
An official with one of the Shi'ite parties told reporters today his
group is ready to propose another candidate if the alliance cannot
secure Mr. Jaafari's nomination. Shi'ite leaders have been trying
to form a government since winning December's elections, but differences
over Mr. Jaafari have stalled progress. Kurdish and Sunni Arab leaders
say Mr. Jaafari has not done enough to ease sectarian violence.

Israel's Sharon 'Permanently Incapacitated'
Israel's Cabinet has declared Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
"permanently incapacitated," officially ending his five-year leadership
of the Jewish state. The 78-year-old Mr. Sharon suffered a severe stroke
on January fourth and has been in a coma since.
The Cabinet decision today (Tuesday) also confirms Ehud Olmert as the
stricken leader's replacement. Mr. Olmert, who served as Mr. Sharon's
deputy, became the acting prime minister in January. He led the new
centrist Kadima Party created by Prime Minister Sharon to victory in
national elections two weeks ago. Mr. Olmert is trying to form a
coalition government.
