11 Suspects in Airline Terror Plot Due in Court in London

Eleven of the men and women arrested in Britain for their alleged involvement in a plot to blow up airliners over the Atlantic are being brought before judges in London Tuesday. The suspects are appearing in court for the first time since they were detained almost two weeks ago. All are residents of Britain and under 30 years old. Eight have been formally charged with conspiracy to commit murder and acts of terrorism. Three others face lesser charges for their alleged role in planning to destroy up to 10 passenger jets heading for the United States.

Police say they found bomb-making materials, suicide notes and martyrdom videos during searches of businesses, homes and vehicles linked to those in custody. Senior police official Peter Clarke says search teams have confiscated about eight thousand items, including electrical components used to trigger bombs. He says evidence will include "fingerprints, DNA, electronic data, handwriting comparisons, [and] chemical analyses."
