China Promises More Housing For the Low Income中国承诺为低收入者提供住房
Chinese state media say the government is promising to make more low-income housing available, while at the same time trying to control soaring property prices. The China Daily reports the country's vice premier Zeng Peiyan told a government meeting that efforts should be taken to build more low-income housing. The paper says the vice premier also said that property prices are rising too fast.
It says at least 20 percent of China's largest cities have failed to construct low-cost housing for the poor. The China Daily also says housing prices in 70 large and medium-sized cities were five-point-six percent higher in January than a year earlier. It says housing prices in Beijing rose almost 10 percent over the same period.
