U.S. Military Plane Heads for the Korean Peninsula
Japan's chief cabinet secretary, Yasuhisa Shiozaki, said Thursday the U.N. Security Council is working on sending a strong message to Pyongyang, after it said on Tuesday it would test a nuclear device at an unspecified date to bolster its defenses against the U.S.. Japan circulated a strongly-worded draft text to Council members Wednesday warning North Korea not to carry out the nuclear test. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters hat Moscow is holding direct talks with North Korea in an effort to diffuse the situation. Meanwhile, Japanese media reports say a U.S. military plane capable of detecting radiation left the U.S. Airbase at Okinawa earlier Thursday headed for the Korean Peninsula.
