China Real Estate Tycoon Re-arrested
前上海房地产大亨再次被逮捕
China's state media say police have re-arrested Zhou Zhengyi, a former Shanghai real estate tycoon who was released this year after serving a prison term for a stock market scandal. The Xinhua news agency quoted a government spokesman Friday as saying that Zhou Zhengyi has been in custody since October for unspecified problems. The spokesman said police are conducting an investigation.
Zhou Zhengyi was released in May after serving a three-year prison sentence for fraud and stock manipulation. In 2002, he ranked eleventh on Forbes magazine's list of China's richest business people. His wealth was estimated at about 320 million dollars. Zhou Zhengyi was the president of the Shanghai-based real estate firm Nongkai Development group.
