Cuba's Castro Says Health Improving After Several Operations
Cuban President Fidel Castro says his health has improved after several operations that -- at first -- were not successful. In an editorial released by the Cuban government Wednesday, Mr. Castro said that he is getting better and that his weight is stabilizing. He said his recovery from intestinal surgery last year was prolonged because of the initial trouble. The 80-year-old leader said age is now his greatest danger.
The editorial marks Mr. Castro's first mention of his health in months. He has not appeared in public since temporarily handing power to his brother, Raul, last July. However, Cuban media have released photographs and video of the president. Cuban officials regard Mr. Castro's health a state secret.
