36 Trapped in China Mine

Chinese state media say 36 miners are trapped in a flooded iron ore mine in northern China's Inner Mongolia region.

The Xinhua news agency says the fate of the workers is unknown and that rescue efforts are underway at the mine in Boutou. The miners were trapped after three vertical shafts were flooded.

Chinese coal mines are the world's deadliest. Nearly five-thousand miners were killed last year as a result of floods, fires, cave-ins and other calamities.

中国国家媒体报导说，中国北部内蒙古地区一个铁矿发生透水事故，36名矿工被困在井下。

新华社报导说，被困矿工的命运目前还不得而知，救援工作正在包头市的出事矿井进行。这个铁矿的三个竖井发生透水，将矿工困在了井下。

中国煤矿是世界上最危险的。去年一年有将近五千名矿工由于透水、火灾、塌方或是其它灾祸而遇难。
