UN Security Council Nominates South Korean FM as New UN Secretary-General
联合国安理会任命韩国外长为联合国新秘书长
The U.N. Security Council has nominated South Korea's Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon as the successor to outgoing Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
The president of the council says the council believes Ban will be a "good, strong secretary-general."
Ban says, as secretary-general, he will work to make the United Nations more transparent and effective.
The next step in the process is seeking approval from the 192-member General Assembly.
联合国安理会任命韩国外交通商部长官潘基文接替即将卸任的联合国秘书长安南的职务。
安理会主席说,安理会相信潘基文将是一位好的和强有力的秘书长。
潘基文说,作为联合国秘书长,他将致力于把联合国变得更透明和更有效。
任命程序的下一步是寻求共有192个成员的联合国大会的批准。
